Essay Contest Going Strong
For the seventh year the Kennedy Planetarium and the Camp Eberhart Alumni Association have worked together to send students to Astro Camp. In February of each year the planetarium sponsors an essay contest for fifth graders in the South Bend Community School Corporation. Students are challenged to explain in writing why they would like to go to Astro Camp. Then, based on their essays, two students are awarded a week at AstroCamp through the generosity of the Camp Eberhart Alumni Association.
More than thirty young people have attended Astro Camp through this program. (Some years more than two students were selected.) Several have returned for a second or third year to further their observing skills and enjoy a week of astronomical fun and learning at Camp Eberhart.
The 2012 application form, sent to each fifth grader last year, announced the contest.
